TEACHING WITH DESIGN // Masters Thesis Project

My Master of Design thesis work at Emily Carr University of Art and Design involved a two year exploration into design-based learning as a pedagogic approach for children in  grades 4-7, to support the learning of of curricular content and foster creative problem solving skills. In addition to teaching children and identifying the benefits of design-based learning, I developed resources and a coaching model to support teachers with the planning and teaching of custom design lessons to meet their specific classroom needs.

“The design process means making a new product that will help and make an impact in the world, but first there are lots of brainstorming and creativity. You get to plan out what resources you are going to use and how it will work.”
